Omar Hazyl Diaz
May 30, 1990 – October 24, 2021
We Get It Foundation is proud to present the Hazyl Diaz Scholarship for the Arts, a scholarship that promotes music, martial arts, and soccer. Hazyl Diaz was a son, a brother, and a friend to many. He enjoyed a close connection with and was lovingly referred to as Uncle Hazyl by the Founder of our Teen Ambassador’s program, an Autistic youth in our organization.
All who knew Hazyl or had the opportunity to meet him regarded him as the brightest light in the room. His laughter was heard a mile away and he always met each and every opportunity and adversity with positive intention. He was a proponent for acceptance in the Neurodiverse community and spoke often about inclusion and change. Among the many things Hazyl loved to do, he spent many years playing soccer, he was a DJ, and he was a Mixed Martial Artist. Therefore, this scholarship encompasses all three of his truest loves and keeps his dreams and his legacy alive.
The Scholarships
The Hazyl Diaz Scholarship for the Arts awards a grant paid directly to the institution of learning for musical instrument lessons or Disc Jockey training. This grant may also be used to purchase an instrument or DJ equipment if that is the intention of the applicant and so stated when the applicant is applying.
